The “CIAPPA”, a Sicilian sun-dried tomato, is a traditional agri-food product recognized by the Sicily Region. It is officially listed in the PAT (Traditional Agri-food Products) registry, as published in Ordinary Supplement No. 141 of the Official Gazette (G.U.) No. 200 on 08/29/2003.
The term “Ciappa” identifies sun-dried tomatoes due to their flat appearance (“ciattu” in Sicilian dialect), and they are also commonly referred to as “Ciappa ri Pummaroru”.
